SUPPORTIVE treatment for
TMJ PAIN

What is TMJ?

The Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) is a hinge that connects your jaw to your temporal bones in your skull. This joint allows you to move your jaw side to side and up and down, so you can talk, eat, cheer for your favorite team, and yawn.

TEMPOROMANDIBULAR DISORDERS (TMD)

When your TMJ isn’t working properly, it can turn into TMD which is where Core Physical Therapy comes in. Often TMD creates jaw pain, headaches, upper body pain, and other frustrating symptoms. We work closely with patients experiencing TMD through a full-body evaluation in a private room, which helps us uncover any musculoskeletal components that may be contributing to the TMJ pain.

TMJ PAIN SYMPTOMS

These are some of the most common conditions we see patients come to Core Physical Therapy to find treatment for but it is not an exhaustive list. Contact us to see if physical therapy might be right for your pain.

  • Chronic, recurring headache
  • Dizziness / ringing in ears
  • Painful jaw use / motions
  • Clicking, popping, locking of the jaw
  • Pain in eyes, visual disturbances
  • Face pain
  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Upper back pain
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Digestive stress

When I went to core physical therapy my TMJ was so bad I could not open my mouth to eat, my dentist could not clean my teeth and I was in a lot of pain. Within two weeks I could tell a big difference. Now after six weeks I am almost back to normal. I can eat whatever I want and the dentist could clean my teeth. Laura the PT at core therapy did a great job she was very knowledgeable and caring. I would recommend core physical therapy to everyone!
