Each month we’ll bring you a note from one of our therapists. It might be something they’re reading, learning or just something they want to share.
This month’s note is from Lindsay Brown, PT, MPT:
I am a lover of analogies. I use them often to educate my patients about their bodies in terms they can relate with. Often, I will have patients that are frustrated with their bodies when they are not performing well. Our bodies are very much like cars. But we only get one car to carry us through this life. There are no lease options. On a good day, I’m a mint condition 1979 red Ford Mustang. My vehicle history would tell you that I’ve been in a few fender benders, I’ve hit my share of potholes, and I’ve been refurbished inside and out five times using my original parts (pregnancy and childbirth).
I give myself a tune-up most days of the week in the form of stretches and exercise. I have also required more extensive bodywork (courtesy of Core PT) when I’ve been out of alignment or if I’m having trouble driving my daily route. I also do my best to keep my fluid levels in check by drinking plenty of water, and I put in plenty of clean burning fuel to keep my engine running smoothly. How do you maintain your vehicle? Let us know if one of our Core certified “body mechanics” can be of service to you on your journey.
