Each month we’ll bring you a note from one of our therapists. It might be something they’re reading, learning or just something they want to share.
This month’s note is from Alex Schmitt, PT, DPT:
When was the last time you took time to do something for yourself? Many times, we get wrapped up in putting other people’s needs and wants before our own and forget about ourselves. I have always been one to struggle with this, but found it especially true after starting a position in healthcare during the middle of a global pandemic. The past few months I have been working to change that. Whether it be going for a walk, working out, reading a book, or even just sitting on the couch and watching a movie on a lazy Sunday, it is essential to take the time to do something that makes you happy. Creating a self-care routine has been proven to reduce anxiety and depression, decrease stress, improve concentration, minimize frustration and anger, increase happiness, and improve energy- just to name a few. I’m sure you’ve all heard the saying “you can’t pour from an empty cup”, so I’m challenging you all to find one thing you can do this week to try and fill your cup so that you can be the best version of yourself, for both you and those around you.
