I chose to work at Core after seeing the family atmosphere where everyone cares about each others success. When that was paired with our style of 1 on 1 manually-driven treatments with patients, I knew that this would be a good fit for me.

I started as a patient at our Adel clinic my junior and senior years of high school. I remember being so impressed by how much the therapists knew about the human body, how comfortable I felt, and how I was getting better and back to playing volleyball, which mattered a lot at that time. This was around the time I needed to start thinking about what I wanted to do once I graduated, and that experience played a huge role in my decision to become a physical therapist. It seemed like a perfect fit for my interests in working with people, value on health and wellness, and my love of learning. Core allowed me the opportunity to shadow before PT school to further explore what the PT profession is all about. Once in PT school, I was able to spend 8 weeks working with Noel at our WDM location for one of my clinicals. After that I couldn’t imagine working anywhere else, and I am so thankful the team took me on! Working at Core has been a huge blessing and has played a critical role in my development as a PT. Core invests an immense amount of time and energy training new hires throughout their first year. I probably spent 3 months observing, learning new skills, and spending time with all of our experienced team members before I started taking my own patients and putting those new skills to use. I can’t describe how valuable it was to learn from people with 20+ years of experience in the field and learn about the many specialties our therapists offer including hand/wrist care, vestibular therapy, pelvic health, somatic yoga work, craniocervical instability, etc. This was also a critical time for me to practice and master the specialties people expect when they come to Core, including craniosacral therapy, myofascial release, and visceral mobilization. These skills really elevated my ability to help more patients and more of the chronic/complex cases that Core sees a lot of. In addition to learning these new skills, Core also encourages therapists to seek out training opportunities for things they are interested in. I took two pelvic health courses this past year, and I have loved working with this population and incorporating that into my current practice. So many people experience pelvic floor dysfunction, and we have so many tools to help change that! I’ve even seen multiple clients with low back pain, hip pain, or tailbone pain without the typical signs of bladder leakage or pelvic pain that have seen improvement in their symptoms with some pelvic floor therapy. This training has now taken on new meaning with being able to support my twin sister through her pregnancy and helping her through her birth. I know it will help me to be as prepared as possible for when I have my own kids. Another bonus about working at Core is that our pay structure allows us to choose our hours as we want, so new moms get a lot of flexibility as they adapt to life with a newborn.

From day 1 of working at Core I knew it was different and I loved it! As a student I had the opportunity to be immersed in the environment of many different clinics, both on clinicals and through observation. I got used to feeling in the way and to a working environment where employees put their heads down and were just trying to get through the day. Then I did a clinical at Core and all of a sudden I realized what a working environment truly could be and should be. Every single therapist went out of their way to make me feel welcome, a part of the team and were anxious to help my onboarding in any way they could. I felt uplifted when working here and have felt the that same way every day since! Not only this, but their mentoring program as a new hire is second to none. I am not just another body in the office to make the company money. I am a valued member of the team that they seek anxiously to invest time and resources into so that I can and will be successful as a therapist for many years to come. I haven’t even mentioned the treatment philosophy of Core, but in a nutshell, it’s life changing, not only for me as a therapist, but for every patient who walks in our doors. The longer I work at Core, the more I realize that this is exactly the kind of therapist I wanted to be and work environment I dreamed I would work in when I started my physical therapy journey many years ago.

I have been with Core for just over 2 years now and so far, it has been one of the best experiences of my life. Core has been an excellent place to grow as a physical therapist. The team here is incredibly supportive and always willing to collaborate and provide guidance whenever needed which has been extremely helpful. I love that at Core I am not just allowed but encouraged to pursue specialties and patient populations that I am passionate about. I am truly very proud to be apart of a team that places so much value on supporting one another, continuing education, and excellent patient care.
